Registered sex offender attempts kidnapping at Miami International Airport

A 42 year old man attempted to kidnap a 3-year old girl while at Miami International Airport on January 26th.

Cuong Nguyen, who is a registered sex offender, grabbed the child by the wrist and attempted to leave the building with her while she was walking towards a water fountain with her two older siblings. The girl’s father was following close behind them. The family of the child had just arrived from Argentina when Nguyen grabbed her.

The girl was able to get away from Nguyen and run back to her parents a few feet away, who promptly alerted airport security to the situation. Miami-Dade police were also notified and took Nguyen in for questioning.

Nguyen was initially taken into custody in 1996 following lewd comments and sexual activity with a child and, at the time of this arrest, was out of jail on bond for a grand theft auto case. Nguyen told police officers the reason he grabbed the child was because he liked kids and thought that the child in question was “cute”, so he wanted to kiss her.

He is currently being held in Miami on a $500,000 bond and is charged with attempted kidnapping and  false imprisonment of a child under the age of 13.
