Bloomberg to launch Canadian television channel

Financial news and data company Bloomberg LP will launch a Canadian television channel by mid-2015.

The new network, which will be launched in partnership with Channel Zero, will be called Bloomberg TV Canada.

At launch, it will have content produced from Bloomberg’s six Canadian bureaus in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Montreal, Vancouver and Winnipeg. The channel will feature locally produced business news and interviews.

“Canada is a vital market for us,” founder Michael Bloomberg said in a statement. “It is now one of our fastest growing markets in the world.”

Bloomberg’s major competitor in Canada will be Bell owned BNN. The channel has more than 6 million subscribers and earned $14 million in profit in 2013.
