Football star’s DNA found near crime scene

Just days before his former team heads to the Superbowl, former NFL star Aaron Hernandez was in court Jan. 29 facing first degree murder charges.

The jury heard opening statements, including the prosecution listing its evidence against the former New England Patriot.

Hernandez is charged with killing semi-pro football player Odin L. Lloyd in June of 2013.

Evidence against the embattled athlete included a used joint containing DNA from both the victim and Hernandez being found near the scene of the crime.

The prosecution also entered into evidence tracks found at the crime scene that matched shoes belonging to Hernandez.

Hernandez’s lawyer Michael Fee proclaimed his client’s innocence.

“Aaron Hernandez is an innocent man, Aaron Hernandez is not guilty,” Fee said.

Hernandez pleaded not guilty to all charges in the court session.
