Etobicoke man dies in Hwy 427 crash

OPP say a 46-year-old Etobicoke man has died in a fatal crash on Highway 427 early on Mar. 6.

The man was driving southbound in a Dodge Caravan shortly after 12:40 a.m. when he struck a barrier and rolled several times.

Police say the man was thrown from his car and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The investigation was conducted in heavy snow and all southbound lanes were closed until 5:30 a.m.

Police say they don’t know what caused the accident but the investigation is ongoing.

Truck fire causes delays

In a separate incident, two tractor trailers collided and caught fire on Highway 401, west of Highway 427 on Mar. 6 at 12:20 a.m.

The collision caused an electrical fire, igniting one truck’s load of cardboard boxes.

OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford told CBC that there isn’t much left of the truck and is too damaged to be towed away.

The cleanup is causing delays as the truck is being removed piece by piece.

Only the westbound express lane was open as of 6 a.m. Police say the wreckage may not be cleaned up until about noon.
