Stephen Harper’s drummer faces sexual assault charges

The RCMP has charged a teacher who plays drums in Stephen Harper’s band with multiple counts of sexual assault and sexual interference allegedly against a minor.

Phil Nolan, who teaches grades 7 and 8 at a school within the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, has been charged with five counts of sexual assault, five counts of sexual interference and five counts of sexual exploitation. The charges are in relation to alleged incidents that occurred between 1998 and 2000.

The Prime Minister’s Office says it’s shocked and disturbed, and was not aware of any allegations prior to these charges.

Nolan is the drummer for Harper’s band Herringbone, a Celtic folk act, which performs classic rock covers. They have been playing together for more than ten years.
