Good news.
Maple Leafs defenseman Paul Ranger was released from a Toronto hospital several hours after leaving a game by stretcher Mar. 19.
Tampa Bay Lightning Alex Killorn hit Ranger from behind on a forecheck in the first period, causing the Toronto defenseman to slam head first into the boards.
Fans fell silent as Ranger lay still on the ice before medical teams rushed out to him. He was eventually stretchered from the game to a hospital to be assessed.
Killorn was given a five-minute boarding penalty in game, but won’t be suspended for the hit. The NHL is viewing it as “clean”.
There is no official word from the Leafs on Ranger’s condition yet, but his prompt release from hospital is certainly a good sign.
Ranger has been hot and cold throughout the season, but was on a roll as of late.
