An explosion rocked a Syrian border post Feb. 20 near a refugee camp where the Turkish and Syrian borders meet, killing at least five people and wounding scores more.
The injured were transported to a hospital in the Turkish city of Kilis where a state hospital official told Al Jazeera at least 40 people were being treated.
The blast, that maybe have been caused by a car bomb, occurred near the Turkish border post of Oncupinar, opposite the Syrian Bab al-Salameh gate. According to a Turkish border official, the explosion could be felt several kilometres away.
A camp administrator, Abu Osama, said the explosion took place behind his office. He saw at least 20 tents completely obliterated.
According to Osama, thousands of new refugees have come to the camp over the past 20 days because of the barrel bomb attacks on the city of Aleppo.
Turkey currently houses more than 600,000 Syrian refugees and has kept its border open throughout the Syrian civil war.
