Oakville’s Ward 5 councillor Jeff Knoll is surprised to hear about about a Sheridan College student’s petition to transfer ownership of the trail system from the city to the college.
The petition was generated in the wake of the most recent sexual assault of a young woman on Tuesday, Feb. 4 near Sheridan College’s Trafalgar campus.
Hamzad Jami, a first-year Computer Systems Technology student, said he has had enough, and has voiced specific demands on behalf of the students and residents living in Oakville’s Ward 5.
Jami published an online petition calling for the City of Oakville to relinquish ownership of the trail system to Sheridan College, so that the school is able to implement more stringent security measures.
Coun. Knoll said the town and the college have always worked together in the past to solve any problems or disputes, and sees no reason why they cannot continue.
Nearly 500 people have signed the petition so far.
Sheridan security has not returned calls from JNM Journal.
