The air in south Etobicoke contains at least five toxic substances that exceed air quality standards, a report released Jan.15 has revealed.
The areas where the QEW and Highway 427 meet are “incredibly high” in pollution, suggesting vehicle emissions are the cause.
Christopher Morgan with the city’s Environment and Energy Division says the pollution comes almost exclusively from the high volume of traffic on our highways.
Many residents see this as proof that Toronto needs a better transit system to curb the number of vehicles on the road.
Morgan said the pollutants can cause serious damage to lung and cardiovascular health.
