Three of golf’s greatest kicked off the 79th instalment of the Master’s Tournament in Augusta Georgia today.
Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player teed off in the first ceremonial group as organizers went back to their roots with the biggest names in the tournament’s history .
Nicklaus made headlines earlier in the week by sinking a hole in one on the fourth hole in the club’s annual par 3 contest. Nicklaus was applauded by a raucous crowd as he approached the hole to retrieve his ball.
Canadian Mike Weir will be participating in the tournament in the third group to tee off, although he is not expected to make the weekend cut as he is playing in his twilight years on the PGA tour.
Getting even more attention is former world number one golfer Tiger Woods participating in the tournament after weeks of speculation on whether he would play or not.
Woods has probably endured his worst year in his career and is another former great who most likely will not make the cut.
