Man wanted for illegal Whistler gondola jump

The RCMP is looking for a man who illegally BASE jumped 436 metres from Whistler’s Peak 2 Peak gondola, last Thursday.

The man, accompanied by a woman, filmed the stunt via helmet camera and then posted it on Youtube.

He entitled the  video McConkey Reborn as a tribute to Shane McConkey, an extreme BASE jumper who jumped from the same point when the lift opened in 2008.

Shane McConkey was given permission from Whistler Blackcomb and was sponsored by Red Bull for that event.

This time around, this unknown man was not given permission. Whistler Blackcomb said that it appears the man and woman forcefully opened the door for him to jump from the gondola.

The video shows he landed safely. But the internationally recognized ski resort takes the gondola damages very seriously and it is working closely with the RCMP to press charges.
