Sexist songbook lands engineers a suspension

A McMaster engineering student group has been suspended after a songbook was found to contain “sexist, violent and degrading material”.

The Provost of McMaster University considers the material to be highly offensive, and an investigation has been launched. The group, know as the Redsuits, will no longer be allowed to run or participate in events on campus or help organize the Welcome Week activities in the fall.

The Redsuits are an independently financed student group within the faculty of engineering. Its name comes from the red jumpsuits students wear.

This incident comes approximately three months after outraged complaints surfaced over sexist chants at Universities in Halifax and British Columbia.
