Hamilton’s Garment District paints the town yellow

Hamilton’s Garment District has been noticeably more colourful this past month.

Several of the Ottawa Street stores have joined together to celebrate International Women’s Day by decorating their windows in yellow. The presence of the official colour of the movement reminds locals of the influence and rights women around the world have fought for.

Stores such as the Orange Tree Boutique are owned by local women who hope to inspire others. Decorations range from a simple yellow ribbon tying the road together, to complete yellow-inspired decorations.

The decorations have been up for the past month and will culminate at the International Women’s Day Gala, run by the Zonta Club of Hamilton 1. This gala celebrates women from the past to the present who have inspired and promoted women’s rights’, equality and access to justice.

The Gala this year will be held on March 24th, for its 85th anniversary.
