The Miami Heat needed some last-moment heroics against Orlando to keep their own winning streak alive in the NBA.

They erased a five-point deficit in the final minutes of play to beat the Magic  97-96, with LeBron James laying in the winning basket with only three seconds left.

The Heat actually blew a 20-point lead but managed to battle back and escape with their 16th consecutive victory.

James led all scorers with 26 points, making 11 of 12 free throws. Dwyane Wade added 24 points and Chris Bosh chipped in 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The Heat were 27 for 31 from the charity stripe, making up for only shooting 43 per cent from the field.

Elsewhere in the NBA last night, the Raptors gained an easy 98-71 win in Phoenix.

DeMar DeRozan scored 15 points from Toronto, which led 54-40 at halftime and was never challenged after that.
