Olympic “blade runner” charged with murder

South African Paralympic and Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been charged with murdering his girlfriend in South Africa.

Model Reeva Steenkamp was found shot to death at the 26-year-old Olympic star’s house.

Johannesburg’s Talk Radio 702  originally reported that Pistorius may have mistaken Steenkamp for a robber, but police later elevated the charge to murder.

Police are  talking to neighbours and people who heard things when the shooting took place. A 9mm pistol was located at the scene of the crime, Police brigadier Denise Beukes said.

Reuters is reporting police have also confirmed that there have been previous incidents of a domestic nature at the home.

Pistorius was the first double-amputee to run in the Olympics, reaching the 400-meter semi-finals in London 2012.

He also suffered his first loss in nine years at the 200-meter relay at last year’s Paralympic games, just a day after beating the world record in the semi-finals.

In the wake of these alligations, South Africa’s M-Net cable TV channel has said it will pull advertisements featuring Pistorius immediately.
