The logic behind Western intervention in Mali

Despite France’s stated concern that the conflict in Mali will affect all of Europe and perhaps the rest of the world, there are other reasons for the three-week intervention.

Due to Islamic rebel groups gaining control in the country’s north, a number of Western countries, led by France, have been providing International support. According to the latest figures form the French Defense Ministry, France has sent over 3500 troops into Mali.
