This year’s flu season is nothing to sneeze at

This year’s flu season is gathering steam at a rapid rate in North America with a high increase of influenza cases reported over the last few weeks compared to the entire 2011-2012 season.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a public health emergency on January 12th, stating that the current seasonal flu activity poses a serious risk for children and people with weakened immune systems or chronic medical conditions.

Several people have died, including several children, throughout North America so far this season.

Pharmacies and doctors’ offices are struggling to meet the demand for flu vaccine and antiviral drugs.
