Mont-Tremblant skier Erik Guay will be unable to compete in Saturday’s World Cup downhill race due to his recent knee injury.
The 32-year-old Guay had his knee checked out on Jan. 21 after experiencing some pain earlier on in the week. Some treatment was required, but no ligament damage was discovered.
Guay was pulled out of his training run at Kitzbuehel on Thursday. Guay had knee surgery over the summer and then returned for the start of the World Cup season after undergoing an intensive rehab program.
Guay posted on his Twitter account about the recent situation with his knee.
Did everything we could but my knee is not in a place where I can push it. #Kitzbuehel is a no go 🙁

Guay is known as one of the top Canadian hopefuls for an alpine skiing medal at the Sochi Olympics this year. He holds the Canadian record with 21 career World Cup medals and has won gold and bronze on the World Cup circuit this season.
This is a crucial season for Guay as he chases the Canadian record for alpine World Cup podiums and his first Olympic medal.
