Rob Ford wants to legalize pot

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford is at it again.

In an interview with Washington, D.C. sports talk radio station  The Sports Junkies  on Jan. 9, Ford strayed from talking football to politics.

While the mayor appeared on the show to make football predictions, hosts brought him back to talking about drugs. When asked about the issue of legalizing marijuana, Ford questioned why the federal government would not decriminalize marijuana, framing it as a new source of income for the country.

The mayor suggested that with Canada’s Conservative government being in power, it is unlikely that this would be a reality in the near future.

Ford has admitted to smoking marijuana in the past year, and claims the Conservatives are firmly against normalizing the use of marijuana and other drugs in Canada.

Despite the apparent Conservative opposition to decriminalizing marijuana, the issue is receiving growing attention in Canada – especially with Justin Trudeau coming out as a progressive leader in decriminalizing the drug in anticipation of the 2015 federal election.
