The Higgs Boson particle has finally been found, officials at CERN announced today.
The particle, whose existence has been theorized for about 50 years, was predicted to exist by the Standard Model of particle physics. This model explains how particles interact at a subatomic level. The official discovery of the particle now confirms this theory, and makes way for new theories in particle physics.
Physicists also believe the particle may have played a major role in the Big Bang and the formation of the universe.
