Astronaut Chris Hadfield became the first Canadian Commander of the International Space Station yesterday afternoon.
During a transfer of command ceremony at 5:10 p.m., NASA Commander Kevin Ford, in charge since November 2012, handed Hadfield responsibility for the station.
A humbled Hadfield stated it was a huge honour and privilege for him, his co-workers, and the entire country.
He and five other crew members will run the Station and return to Earth in mid-May. The Sarnia, Ont. native has been conducting experiments since December, while sharing his experiences on social media.

The Queen congratulated Hadfield yesterday wishing him and his crew a safe return. Prime Minister Stephen Harper also chimed in, stating that his achievements are a source of national pride.
