Qatar has recalled its ambassador to Egypt following a row over Cairo’s air strikes on ISIS targets in Libya.
Egypt bombed ISIS strongholds in the Libyan city of Derna, just hours after the militant group released a brutal and gruesome video showing the beheadings of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians, who were taken as hostages in the North African country.
In addition to that, Tariq Adel, Egypt’s delegate to the Arab League, accused Qatar of supporting terrorism has further worsened the ties between the two countries.
The alleged comment was made after delegates representing Doha expressed their reservations over a clause in the statement, which welcomed Egypt’s decision to carry out air strikes on ISIS strongholds in Libya without consulting other Arab states.

Brutal killing of innocents
Qatar also expressed its displeasure over the “tense” statements made by Egypt’s representative and stated that it confuses the need to combat terrorism and the brutal killing of innocent civilians during the air strikes.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry also stressed the need for “consultations” before unilateral military action against another member state.
Gulf Cooperation Council backs Qatar
Saudi Arabia and Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, which constitutes the Gulf Cooperation Council, have pledged their support to Qatar and added that the claims made by Egypt that Qatar supports terrorism were false and such statements do not help the cause of Arab solidarity.
Relations between two countries
In 2001, when the Arab Spring unrest swept Egypt, Qatar offered financial backing to Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood following the revolution there.
However Qatar’s support of the Muslim Brotherhood put it at odds with other Gulf nations which was mended later after the ouster of Muslim Brotherhood President Mohammed Morsi in 2013.
In 2014 , Qatar pledged full-fledged support to Abdel-Fattah-Al Sisi’s government.
