Clint Eastwood has done it again with his box office hit American Sniper.
On its opening weekend, the Oscar nominee for Best Picture made a whopping $105 million.
Despite its popularity at the box office, the film is stirring up a controversy over whether it glorifies killers.
The film is a biographical drama about U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, played by Bradley Cooper. With 255 kills, 160 of which were officially confirmed by the Department of Defense, Kyle is considered to be the deadliest marksman in U.S. military history.
The movie shows his ability to be a precise marksman, while also revealing the turmoil he faces once he is off duty.
Director Michael Moore tweeted his thoughts:
Rolling Stones’ Matt Taibbi also weighed in.
“Well done, Clint! You made a movie about mass-bloodshed in Iraq that critics pronounced not political! That’s as Hollywood as Hollywood gets.”
However, there are those that have a different opinion.
Police officer Brian Rendon says Kyle was a Hero. “People just want to always belittle police and military,” he said.
