Freedom, Opportunity and Family: Oakville’s Black History Exhibit at Oakville Museum

Poster reads: “Wayner Family. Lorenzo Wayner worked as the local garbage collector for more than 28 years. He married Martha Johnson, one of three sisters who married Wayner Brothers. Wayner was a pastor at the Turner Chapel and was instrumental in keeping the church debt-free. He was also a generous supporter of the local hospital, where Martha had spent her final days. In 1953, Wayner won the Oakville Lion’s Club Annual Award of Merit as Man of the Year.”
