Freedom, Opportunity and Family: Oakville’s Black History Exhibit at Oakville Museum

Poster reads: “Duncan Family. Alexander Duncan married Isabella Adams and had six children: Urban, Alvin, Dorothy, Jean, Marion, and Grace. Grace died in 1924, Dorothy became a Registered Nurse, Marion was a Registered Nurse’s Assistant, and Jean worked for the Post Office. Urban worked for Imperial Oil and Alvin worked for the aluminum factory and ran “Al Duncan Television”. Alvin was well known in Oakville for his presentations to school classes on the Underground Railroad. His daughter Arlene, a well-known performer has acted in both film and television. She played the role of Harriet Tubman in the Underground Railroad musical docudrama “Sing Out Freedom Train”.
