Two people killed by suspected drunk driver in Austin, Texas

Two people are dead and five critically injured after a car accident at the South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) in Austin, Texas.

The accident took place at 12:30 am March 13th. It is suspected that the man driving the car was under the influence of alcohol. The couple, whose names have not been released, died at the scene of the accident.

Police say there was a drunk driver prevention officer on duty who attempted to stop the man from driving. The man then sped off towards a gas station.

Afterwards, he turned onto Red River Street where he crashed into the SXSW barricade.

He hit several pedestrians upon the first crash, and continued to drive his silver sedan down the street, resulting in more pedestrian injuries including the two casualties.

A total of 30 people were injured by the driver. The man responsible is currently in custody and facing two counts of capitol murder and 23 counts of aggravated assault.

A witness told CNN that the scene looked like something from a movie, with bodies lying all over the street.

Several people on the scene took to social media to tell the story.
